Born in St. Louis and raised between the US and Italy, Garrett spent eight years at St. Stephen's School in Rome, winning the Woodhams Medal for excellence in the arts. He graduated cum laude from UCLA's creative writing program in 2006.

After acting alongside Kim Basinger and Daniel Craig, he founded Strømmen Inc. — now LA's top-rated language school with 250+ instructors teaching 50+ languages. From dialect coaching Amy Adams in Arrival to helping Keanu Reeves master Japanese for Ronin 47.

Art runs in the family. Garrett's mother, Genell Miller, is a professional painter and art professor. Trained at St. Stephen's in Rome, Garrett creates original acrylic paintings and sculptures — pop art, mixed media, deep-framed canvas.

When not building Strømmen or on set: Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, hiking Griffith Park, painting, and building models.

Origami

Folding paper since he was twelve.

Inspired by the origami Christmas tree at the American Museum of Natural History, Garrett folded paper nonstop when he was twelve. The patience and precision of the practice still show up in his art today.

3D Prints.

Next sandbox project: an FDM 3D printer and a series of Sierpinski tetrahedron prints exploring fractal geometry at increasing recursion depths.

Recursion is patient work — each level halves the triangle and multiplies the print time. A small obsession that pairs nicely with origami.

Origin

From rollerblading lessons in Rome to LA's #1 language school.

At age eight, Garrett placed an ad for rollerblading lessons in the magazine Wanted in Rome. His first client: an American flight attendant at Villa Borghese.

It was like a dinosaur egg hatching; I had no idea how much it would grow.

After UCLA, he tutored Italian while acting. When students asked for Spanish, he partnered with a friend, learned HTML, built a website. Twenty years later: 250 instructors, 50+ languages, Netflix, Disney, and more.

Growing up in Rome, Garrett learned authentic Italian cooking from the source. Part language lesson, part cooking class, part cultural deep-dive.

Ten Saturdays of suppli.

During the pandemic, Garrett was craving suppli — the Roman fried rice balls he'd grown up eating — and had been circling the ghost-kitchen idea for a while. He partnered with Manlio Gagliano and ran a pop-up suppli kitchen out of a house in Echo Park for ten Saturdays.

The name is a double joke: due palle means "two balls" (the suppli), and che palle is Italian slang for "how annoying." They sold 500 on the final Saturday and decided to leave it at that.
